Jana Stone, LPCC
Jana came to counseling after a lifetime of fighting her own psychological battles and emerging as a formidable force of nature, delighted to be alive, and in awake, aware service to humanity.
After her graduation with a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychotherapy from Naropa University, she entered a five year period of volunteering in service to those most vulnerable and displaced due to climate change. Living outside the US in ground zero of disaster zones, arriving just days after some of the worst hurricanes in recorded history, she led teams of first responders and relief workers toward assisting survivors in every possible way. Together they learned how to establish vast networks of others to provide much needed and life-sustaining support: physical, psychological, and spiritual.
This life changing experience has extended her knowledge to a first hand understanding of the depths to which trauma can effect the psyche, and how to assist herself and others in returning to a grounded, functional, resilient, and far more peaceful place.
One way Jana helps clients find relief is through mindfulness practices combined with somatic work. This helps to access present moment awareness and allows us to carefully notice current emotions and how they register as bodily sensations. This is but one of the many ways that can help us to identify and move through difficult emotions far more efficiently, aiding us in healing disregulation and bringing us to the place of peace and contentment which is our birthright.
Jana’s personal experience utilizing EMDR for her own healing inspired her to further her education by attending the Maiberger Institute and gaining the crucial knowledge of this trauma resolution therapy which brings relief to so many. Now recognized for its usefulness for many mental health disturbances beyond PTSD alone, Jana’s skillful use of EMDR can provide the sort of relief which can allow troublesome symptoms to begin to abate more quickly than talk therapy alone.
After decades of dedication to the visual arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting, Jana has experience with many mediums and delights in assisting clients in their own integration and the mitigation of symptoms using elements of art therapy.
With her deeply empathic, loving nature, Jana looks forward to assisting clients in understanding what they need most in their own healing, and how to best fulfill those needs to lead to a more joy-filled life.
